The Perfect Power SMT6 unit is a piggyback system like many others in the market today.
WHO MAKES THE SMT6?
A company that specializes in engine management systems located in South Africa Digital Data Systems (DDS). All
products made by DDS are marketed by Digital Technology (a subsidiary of DDS). Perfect Power is the brand name of the automotive products manufactured by DDS but marketed by Digital Technology.
WHAT MAKES THE SMT6 SPECIAL?
The SMT6 has the ability to intercept certain signals going or coming from the car's facotry fitted ECU, allowing you to modify them so you can have control over the engine parameters.
WHAT CAN THE SMT6 DO FOR ME?
Right out of the box it can control Fuel AND Ignition Timing on almost ALL fuel injected engines today. Other options include additional injector control, activation switch (Nitrous, Vtec, Vvti, etc.), O2 sensor metering and tuning, temperature compensation (allowing for better cold start after tuning), etc.
HOW DO YOU PROGRAM THE SMT6?
The main tool for tuning the SMT6 is with a laptop and specific tuning software provided free of charge from the web or from a Perfect Power dealer.

WHAT CARS CAN THE SMT6 BE INSTALLED ON?
Right now the current model SMT6 can be installed in practically ANY vehicle with an electronically controlled fuel injection system. Some cars may not be able to benefit from Ignition tuning but fuel tuning is always easy to do.
CAN I INSTALL A TURBO ON MY N/A CAR AND TUNE IT?
Yes, the SMT6 can provide the additional fuel, and where applicable, retard timing for boosted engines.
MY N/A CAR WILL THROW A "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT UNDER BOOST, WHY?
Some N/A cars ECUs turn on the "Check" light when they detect boost and go into "safe mode". The SMT6 has a built in feature to correct this.
WHAT CAN BE PROGRAMMED WITH THE SMT6?
The SMT6 is programmed three dimensionally for optimum results, using throttle position, load sensor and RPMs it can be tuned for all engine conditions, light load, full load or wide open throttle, etc.
CAN I CONTROL VTEC WITH THE SMT6?
Yes, the SMT6 has an activation feature that can be configured to do just that, activate any given device either by RPM, TPS, Load or engine temperature. This function can also be used to drive other variable timing devices like Vvti on Toyota, Vanos on BMW, Nitrous solenoids, shift light, etc., please be aware that there is only 1 activation switch built into the unit, so if you must decide what to use it on.
AFTER I TUNE MY ENGINE ITS HARD TO START WHEN COLD, WHAT CAN I DO?
The SMT6 has an input for an intake temperature sensor (0-5V range). In the software there is a scale where you can calibrate the amount or percentage that the SMT6 adds or takes out fuel, allowying for better cold starts.
DOES THE SOFTWARE RUN UNDER DOS OR WINDOWS?
The SMT6 software has a DOS version and a Windows version. The Windows version can run on Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP.
DOES THE SMT HAVE DATALOGGING?
Yes. It has a datalogging and playback feature. You can view the values it has recorded or you can use the playback feature that lets you visualise all the parameters that occurred in real time.
HOW CAN I VEW THE DATALOGGS?
The SMT6 creates a special file in which all the parameter values are stored, once you create it you can import it into MS Excel so you can view and even graph the resulted log.
CAN THE SMT6 BE TUNED BY THE CUSTOMER/END USER?
This will depend on the policy of the Dealer. The unit can be locked out by the Delaer or the end user so nobody but the Dealer can reprogram the unit. It can be left in "Developer Mode" so it can be reprogrammed as many times as needed.
DOES THE SMT6 COME WITH BUILT IN MAPS?
Due to the amount of engines and their noted differences, the SMT comes blank from the factory, unless the dealer is preloading a tune map in it at the request of a buyer.
CAN I SAVE WHAT I HAVE DONE ON MY LAPTOP?
Yes, all Tune Maps can be saved to the computer for future retreival and relaoding or for reference.
WHAT IS THE SMT-PRO, SMT5 AND SMT5i?
These are the previous models of the SMT6 unit that have been discontinued.
WHAT IS A DEVELOPER KIT?
An SMT6 Developer's Kit contains an SMT6 unit, wiring harness, shorting (bypass) plug, test Jig, Developer's CD and comms cable. A regular SMT Kit will only contain the SMT unit, harness and shorting plug, and depending on the Dealer, some additional options at a cost. The Developer's Kit alows for the development of the unit onto any application.
